This sweet little vintage pin is a charm keeper-- a place to keep a collection of pendants pinned close to your heart. Three hearts top the pin, which closes with a C clasp. This could also be a great way for knitters to keep track of their stitch markers!
This pin is hallmarked JEC and STER. Though the design is similar to charm keepers from the late 1970s-1980s, the hallmark suggests this pin may be older. This came from a wonderful lot of vintage pieces from a very special woman who died in the late 1940s.
Dating this piece is a mystery for me-- the hallmark is for James Emmot Caldwell, a silversmith in the 19th century. His shop became a family business and sold silver until 2009, so it is possible this hallmark denotes the shop rather than the maker, as my guess at the design would be early 80s. It is a high quality, substantial piece with a bit of whimsy.
