A playfully elegant version of my traditional penannular brooch, this pin features two faceted garnet drops that hang from the hammered ends of the circle like blood drops, tears or pomegranate seeds. I have named this piece after Persephone, goddess of the underworld who was doomed to stay there part of the year after eating pomegranate seeds. A shadow goddess to her mother Demeter, she is fertility goddess in her own right. This pin reminds me of the shape of a womb or an upside down pomegranate!
This is a smaller pin and will work well with sport or DK weight knits or scarves.
Working part of the pin measures 1 1/2" long by 1 1/4" wide.
My brooches are designed to be worn with hand knits and hand woven textiles. They are inspired by Celtic metalwork and archaeological finds in North East Scotland.
