The Khephri Priestess. Scarab Amulet Necklace.

£39.00 GBP

A simple, rustic necklace of 7 scarab amulets, hand wrapped together in a rosary style chain in copper and glass. The Czech glass scarabs are made using a vintage mould, a Picasso finish giving them a rustic, ancient look. All hang from a copper plated brass chain and the necklace closes with a hand forged hook and eye clasp in my Bird Mother shape. Necklace measures 17 1/2" or 43cm but can be made up to 2" or 5cm longer or shorter by request. Simply message me at checkout if you would like a different length.

In ancient Egypt, scarabs were used as talismans as well as commemorative seals. Heart scarabs were made with green stone and carved with a passage from the Egyptian Book of the Dead which commanded that the heart not betray the deceased in front of the Gods.

I've chosen 7 scarabs as the number seven was sacred to the ancient Egyptians and some say was the number given to the souls in each human being: Ren is the secret name of the soul, Sekem is the light of the soul. Khu is the guardian angel or protector of the soul and the fourth is Ba, or the heart. In the words of William S. Burroughs, it is the "hawk's body with your face on it, shrunk down to the size of a fist..." Next is Ka or the "double" the "only reliable guide through the Land of the Dead." The sixth is Khaibit or the collection of memories from this life as well as all other past lives. The Seventh, Sekhu, is the body. (Apologies to Burroughs who I have paraphrased here).

All my jewellery is made by hand by my partner Mike and myself in a converted 18th century naval school on the wild North coast of Scotland. All pieces come gift wrapped with lavender and Scottish heather.
