A delicate, every day necklace of 9 faceted Sleeping Beauty Turquoise stones, threaded together with sterling silver. All hang from a sterling silver chain with a hand forged sterling hook and eye clasp in my Bird Mother shape, inspired by ancient bird goddess iconography. The clasp is accented with lapis lazuli. Necklace measures 15" (38 cm) long. If you would like this necklace in a different length, I would be happy to make one for you as a custom order. Just send me a message with your preferred length.
The necklace has been hallmarked in Edinburgh with the Scottish Sterling mark as well as my makers mark.
I have named this necklace after Gerd, the hard-won wife of Freyr-- her name means "fenced in" and this necklace has a delicate, protective beauty reminiscent of Gerd. She spent nine nights with Freyr before agreeing to marry him. The number nine is sacred-- in many paths, a spinning mystery of three threes.
Sleeping beauty turquoise is highly valued for its striking blue colour-- once mined only in Globe Arizona, this mine has now closed. The tiny black web matrix has been said to absorb evil influences and has been prized as a protective stone.
All my jewellery is made by hand by my partner Mike and myself in a converted 18th century naval school on the wild North coast of Scotland. All pieces come gift wrapped with lavender and Scottish heather.
