A simple, endless circle inspired by the moon, ouroboros and archeological finds. This penannular brooch is based on an Anglo Saxon design discovered in North Yorkshire and is a bolder version of my original cold-forged in copper one-- it comes in two sizes and this is perfect for aran or chunky weight knits. The bottom edge of the ring has been hammer-finished, the small facets giving the piece an ancient, earthy feel. On the large pin, the circle portion of the pin is about 2 inches in diameter and on the small it's 1 1/4".
The large 2" brooch can be seen in the first 8 photos, while the smaller 1 1/4" brooch can be seen in the last 5 photos.
Your piece will be made to order, with slight variations, making it unique. It will be tumble polished for many hours to make it strong, smooth and glowing and then patina'ed and polished again to bring out the depth and warmth of the design and the finish will be sealed with museum-grade Renaissance Wax. Please allow about 5 business days for me to forge the piece and finish it for you before shipping.
The penannular brooch is an elegant and practical design. Once the fabric has been secured on the pin, the circular frame can be turned around the pin, securing the brooch in place.
All my jewellery is made by hand by my partner Mike and myself in a converted 18th century naval school on the wild North coast of Scotland. All pieces come gift wrapped with lavender and Scottish heather.
