Fascinating jet black glass rosary beads with carved bone skull accents. The faceted black glass beads have aluminium caps which have remained lovely and bright, thought much of the piece is patina'ed with age. Three of these bead caps are missing, though this in no way detracts from the whole. The connector and cross are perhaps 1930s, though momento mori beads such as these can often date to the 19th century. I believe this to be newer-- perhaps a creation using older fragments. It is a weighty, beautiful rosary similar to monk's momento mori rosaries.
Rosary measures 32" or 81cm with a 5 1/2" or 14cm drop, including crucifix.
I source all my vintage pieces with care and all my jewellery is made by hand by my partner Mike and myself in a converted 18th century naval school on the wild North coast of Scotland. All pieces come gift wrapped with lavender and Scottish heather.
