An antique Sacred Heart medal and vintage rosary fragment combine to create a one of a kind necklace. The large, antique brass medal is weathered and mellowed with time. The one side, visible in the necklace design, shows three hearts-- the heart of Mary pierced with a dagger, the heart of Jesus with a wound and the heart of Joseph. The text reads "Archiconfraternity of the Holy Family" With the Initials J. M. J. (Jesus, Mary and Joseph) at the base.
The back shows the Holy Family with a dove. A lovely detail shows Joseph holding an axe. The text reads "Holy Family Patron and Protector of Our our Cofraternity We Have Recourse in You." This Belgian medal belonging to this 19th century organisation of carpenters and engineers most likely dates from this time.
I have paired it with fragments of a mid century rosary with glass tortoise shell beads and an possibly older Marian connector. All have been lovingly repaired and paired with an antique brass coloured Swarovski crystal and antique brass plated pewter toggle clasp with Victorian accents.
Necklace measures 18 1/2" or 47cm.
All my jewellery is made by hand by my partner Mike and myself in a converted 18th century naval school on the wild North coast of Scotland. All pieces come gift wrapped with lavender and Scottish heather.
